How we measure success

Options strives to continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of service provided to each program participant. To accomplish this, information is collected and analyzed on an ongoing basis. We are proud to share some of our results and most recent achievements.

What do our Program Participants say about Options?

Feedback from our program participants and residents is always encouraged. Every year, we send each participant a written survey asking a broad range of questions. We get great results in terms of response and ratings. Here are some of their comments.

Options has helped me improve my quality of life, but above all, Options has rendered their service with respect and the utmost kindness towards me.

I appreciate the help I’m receiving and hope to continue being healthy mentally and physically. My stay here has been very nice and I am very glad that there are people like you to help. Thank you.

My case manager at Options has gone above and beyond for my children and
me. We have had a very comfortable and safe stay at our site. I am also glad to say that because of the resources we have received from the program, my family and I are going to be submitting our housing package for a beautiful apartment. We are very thankful and happy with all of the help we have received.

Mental Health Residential Programs Year End 2007 Data
  • Attesting to efficiency, occupancy for the Community Residence Programs averaged over 97%. Supported Housing Program occupancy averaged 97%.
  • The majority (83%) of Mental Health Supervised and Apartment Program residents transitioned to other living situations in less than 2 years. In comparable Suffolk County programs, only 55% of the residents transitioned to other living situations within two years.
  • Supported Housing residents hold all of their own medication and are responsible for taking medications as prescribed by their physician and obtain and refill their prescriptions. About 91% of supported housing residents were on the most independent medication step, demonstrating accuracy and significant success.

“I was living with 23 other people in an adult home. I wanted to do my own cooking and I didn’t want to share a living room and dining room with so many people. Here I have my own room, I cook for myself. What’s good here? Everything.” - Jean, Permanent Supported Housing Resident

Transitional Housing Program Year Ended 2007 Data

Throughout the years, the Options Transitional Housing Program has assisted approximately 800 Suffolk County families in gaining stability and permanent housing. In 2007, Options served:

  • 45 families with 136 dependents
  • 68% of families discharged found permanent housing
  • 45% of families served during 2007 were working or attending work programs

“I love the services that Options provides. My family and I are grateful to Options. We pray and give thanks everyday because without Options we could not be together. Thanks again. We love you at Options.”

HIV/AIDS Program Year Ended 2007 Data
  • 99% of all program participants are linked to a primary health care provider
  • 75% of all program participants attended medical appointments consistently
  • 84% of program participants demonstrated consistent compliance with medication regimens

Over the first ten years of the program’s existence, Options had responded to the service needs of Long Island residents with HIV or AIDS by consistently expanding case management services. Beginning in 2007, the New York State AIDS Institute initiated a shift away from providing services to longer term clients who are well integrated into community life. This change has resulted in a decrease in program capacity to 400 clients.
