NY Assemblyman James Conte visits group home

Huntington Station, NY--- Twelve adults recovering from mental illness share household chores and work toward independent living at the Options' community residence that has operated in Huntington Station for the last 23 years.  On Friday, April 27, Assemblyman James Conte visited the group home as well as two smaller homes for individuals who with support and assistance, live independently.

Assemblyman Conte was interested in the progress made by Options' program participants.  "It was a pleasure to witness first-hand, how Options is preparing these hardworking adults to live independently.  I applaud their efforts," said the Assemblyman representing Huntington Station.

"Our residents have great success in achieving goals and moving from the group home to a smaller, but more independent setting where they still have the support of our staff.  The majority of our residents (84%) stay in our group homes for less than two years before moving on," said Diane Mendolia, Program Director.  Options currently provides housing and support to 66 individuals and one family residing in the 10th Assembly District.

Options for Community Living, Inc. also operates a shelter program for homeless Suffolk County families and a case management and housing program for people living with HIV/AIDS in both Nassau and Suffolk. All of the agencies' programs are designed to promote health, safety, and welfare. Last year alone, this not-for-profit agency assisted over 1000 adults and children on Long Island.  For more information, visit the Options website www.optionscl.org or call (631)361-9020.
