"In 1982, Diane Mendolia and I struggled to find a way to raise funds to open the agency's first community residence" said Diana Antos Arens, Ph.D., Executive Director. Today, Options serves over 1000 men, women, and children each year who are disabled by mental illness or AIDS and are often homeless, in crisis and in need of help."
Father Fred Hill became involved with Options' emergency shelt er program for homeless families in 1992. "Early on, he came to our annual holiday party with a Teddy Bear for each child. As the program grew, Father Fred enlisted the help of St. Catherine's hospital and nursing home staff and parishioners at St. Patrick's Church. Through his coordination and their generosity, holiday gift wishes have been granted to Options' homeless families and support continues year round. When all available resources have been exhausted, our families are provided food, clothing, shoes, school supplies, and other basic needs thanks to Father Fred."
Father Fred recounted his experiences working with Options' staff and the families in the program. "We are changing a little part of the world right here and that makes all the difference" said Father Fred.
