Options Awarded Newsday Charities Grant

Garden City, NY-- Newsday Charities, a fund of the McCormick Foundation held a reception at the Long Island Children's Museum on, Tuesday, March 29th to distribute over $1 million dollars to local not-for-profit organizations.  Options for Community Living, Inc. was awarded a grant of $20,000 to support its Transitional Housing Program. 
Options operates 22 scattered emergency shelter sites for families in crisis due to homelessness.  Families are referred to the program by Suffolk County Department of Social Services.  They are provided intensive case management services with an emphasis on securing affordable permanent housing.  In 2010, the Transitional Housing Program served 47 families with 131 children.  The Newsday Charities Grant will provide much needed support and assistance to the families served by this program.
