Senator Brian X. Foley visits local group home

East Islip, NY--- In December, 2007, Options for Community Living, Inc. opened a  community residence in East Islip for adults recovering from mental illness. This summer, Senator Brian X. Foley, paid a visit to the group home.  Greeted by Options’ staff, the Senator had an opportunity to meet several residents, tour the home and learn more about the program.

During their stay at the group home, the residents develop the skills necessary to live more independently. “Residents share responsibilities in the house for meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping, and general housekeeping” said Georgia Kuhen, Deputy Program Director. “The majority of our residents move on to more independent housing in less than two years.  They continue to have support, but are more responsible for their
own care.”

“Helping residents recover from mental illness is a tremendous service to our society,” said Senator Brian X. Foley. “With a little assistance and support, these individuals will continue to live meaningful, productive lives. I am pleased to join Options for Community Living, Inc. in their efforts to help adults recovering from mental illness and look forward to working with them in the near future.”
