Transitional Housing Program
For Homeless Families in Crisis

"Having your own living area-just to be able to say we're cooking in our own kitchen is such a good thing. Children need structure and a sense of stability. Living here they have it." (Read Kelly's Story)
In the United States, 3.5 million peoplealmost 40 percent of them childrenexperience homelessness each year. Long Island is one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country and with escalating housing costs, affordable housing has grown more and more difficult to find.
Options' Transitional Housing Program is dedicated to placing homeless families in permanent housing. Until this goal is achieved, Options provides individual families with emergency short-term housing, safe, decent living environments in locations that work for them.
Options also prepares each family to live successfully in their new home. Case managers develop close relationships with families to help build economic independence and self-reliance. Support ranges from help with learning daily living skills to obtaining job training, legal aid, health care, and childcare.
Families are supported in obtaining subsidized housing vouchers, and when suitable permanent housing is found, they are given help with negotiating leases and relocation.
As with all the housing Options oversees, transitional and permanent homes are thoroughly inspected for safety and soundness and all essential repairs and refurbishing is done under close supervision.
